BENNETT J. S..

J.  S. Bennett was active in the work of the Baptist Church in the early days, coming to reside in the district shortly after the church was built. He was secretary for one year, 1919, but was not a man to seek leadership or "limelight" in anything, though he was happy to be helping in other ways.
Those were the horse and buggy days and Mr. Bennett was a very familiar figure driving his horse and sulky outfit to church or elsewhere. Mr. Bennett and his family were faithful supporters during those difficult days and his daughters, Ettie and Amy, were very keen and efficient Sunday School teachers, They and son-in-law Frank Jones, were talented singers and made a very real contribution to the life of the church.

Mr. & Mrs. J. S. BENNETT                #1

Mr. Bennett is gratefully remembered by some for his resistance to the sale of the church building when the church was closed. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett left the district shortly after the re-opening of the church. A younger member of the family, Mr. E. M. Bennett has retained his connection with the church through all these years - longer than any other person having served as deacon, secretary and steward. He was one of the chief advocates and architects of the hall, working and giving sacrificially in the achievement of the project.
